with the publication and entry into force of REGULATION (EU) 2018/858 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 30 May 2018 on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles, amending Regulations (EC) No 715/2007 and (EC) No 595/2009 and repealing Directive 2007/46/EC with effect from 1 September 2020.
The EU has now reacted to the machinations of car manufacturers in terms of exhaust emissions and the associated manipulation of technical components.
The new framework regulation also harmonises the type approval procedure for motor vehicles in Europe to a uniform denominator.
But this is not the only thing that has been newly regulated on the 218 pages of this regulation; market surveillance in Europe has also been given a new status in favour of the consumer. The GAGT e.V. expressly welcomes the measures adopted, as they create more transparency for the consumer.
It is to be hoped that all those who deal with vehicle technology and the sale of motor vehicles will be prepared to take a closer look at this regulation and see the positive aspects for Europe.
